 By Air :

Dimapur is the only city having an airport in Nagaland. There are direct flights coming to Dimapur from Kolkata and New Delhi daily. The airlines currently operating in Dimapur airport are Indigo and Air India. By Rail :

Dimapur, the commercial hub of Nagaland has a rail station and has a number of trains connected to Guwahati that has direct trains connected with most major Indian cities. By Road :

There are number of taxis that connects Kohima from Dimapur. Night bus services connects Dimapur and Kohima from Guwahati (Assam) and Shillong (Meghalaya). There are also public transportation available from Imphal for visitors coming from Manipur. There are a lot of yellow taxis that moves to and fro from Kohima to Kisama during the festival time. Taxis are available at various points in Kohima town.

The best way to reach Kohima, the capital city is to take train or flight to Dimapur and drive to Kohima (74 Kms/2½  – 3hrs). The drive from Kohima to Kisama, the Festival venue is 12 Kms and takes about 25 minutes.


Average Temperature :

Nagaland has a largely monsoon climate with high humidity levels at some places. However the festival venue lies at an altitude of 1650 above sea level and have a pleasant climate. The annual Hornbill Festival being a winter time (December 1-10) warm woolen clothes is recommended for morning and night. During the day the weather is sunny and pleasant.

Annual rainfall averages around 70–100 inches (1,800–2,500 mm), concentrated in the months of May to September. Temperatures range from 70 °F (21 °C) to 104 °F (40 °C). In winter, temperatures do not generally drop below 39 °F (4 °C), but frost is common at high elevations. The state enjoys a salubrious climate. Summer is the shortest season in the state that lasts for only a few months. The temperature during the summer season remains between 16 °C (61 °F) to 31 °C (88 °F). Winter makes an early arrival and bitter cold and dry weather strikes certain regions of the state. The maximum average temperature recorded in the winter season is 24 °C (75 °F). Strong northwest winds blow across the state during the months of February and March.
